what kind of world do you want......

cory and jessamyn walked the 3-Day in 2005
as "Team Juanita"
this is where it all began for our family as far
as our participation goes
they walked in memory of my mother and their grandmother
juanita pearl
when their walk was done, ken (my brother) and i
both said we would like to continue the tradition..
and we did in 2006
walking as "Juanita's Kids"
we will be walking once again starting tomorrow
we appreciate your thoughts and vibes of energy! :)
i'm having a little harder time this year
as i'm not quite ok with leaving my husband
while he is recuperating from surgery.
but i know you all will look in on him
and check on him....

just want to share a list that was written last year

by a walker's daughter, who was still too young to walk!

Top Ten Reasons You Rock The Walk

10. You don’t sweat, you glisten
9. Big shoes are “ in ” this season
8. You now think that 90 degree weather is “ cool ”
7. You think 10 miles is a “short” training walk
6. Because pink is the new black
5. Guys think sock tan lines are hot
4. You have mastered the port-a-potty “hover”
3. You think marathons are for sissies (not me!) :)
2. You believe that blisters build character
1. You believe that, in the words of Ghandi, you must be the change you seek in the world

so....see you in 3 days and 60 miles

these feet

this is the "BJ Flyer"......
handcrafted by my dear husband in 1973
this is also a fairly "young" foot

this is the same foot...thirty four years later

after walking barefoot for years, chasing children
aerobics, kickboxing, dancing (sort of)
a couple 10K's
stubbing toes, climbing stairs, fracturing bones,

standing for hours as a teller and a new hire trainer........
and now after a year of training and walking my first 3-Day
and one more year of training........and soon my second 3-Day.

did you know
achilles, the greatest greek warrior hero
gave his name to the strongest tendon in the body.

the average person walks about 160,000 kilometres
in their lifetime, enought to walk around the earth 4 times.
each step can put up to 4 times your body weight through your feet
which adds up to a cumulative force of over 500 tons a day.
there are 26 bones in each foot,
a total of 52 bones in both the feet
there are 206 bones in the body
which means more than a quarter of all
our bones in our bodies are in our feet.
there are 33 joints in each foot
over 100 ligaments hold all the joints together in each foot
20 separate muscles work individually and together to move all of these joints

“The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.”

thank you feet, for the journey
i promise to give you some much needed
tlc.....soon!

clouds

did you know there is a cloud appreciation society?

i should definitely be a member

they quote John Ruskin with this:

It is a strange thing how little in general people know about the sky.

It is the part of all creation in which nature has done more for the sake of pleasing man, more, for the sole and evident purpose of talking to him and teaching him, than in any other of her works, and it is just the part in which we least attend to her. There are not many of her other works in which some more material or essential purpose than the mere pleasing of man is not answered by every part of their organization; but every essential purpose of the sky might, as far as we know, be answered, if once in three days, or thereabouts, a great, ugly black rain cloud were brought up over the blue, and everything well watered, and so all left blue again till next time, with perhaps a film of morning and evening mist for dew. And instead of this, there is not a moment of any day of our lives, when nature is not producing scene after scene, picture after picture, glory after glory, and working still upon such exquisite and constant principles of the most perfect beauty, that it is quite certain it is all done for us, and intended for our perpetual pleasure. And every man, wherever placed, however far from other sources of interest or of beauty, has this doing for him constantly… the sky is for all; bright as it is, it is not “too bright, nor good, for human nature’s daily food,” it is fitted in all its functions for the perpetual comfort and exalting of the heart, for the soothing it and purifying it from its dross and dust. Sometimes gentle, sometimes capricious, sometimes awful, never the same for two moments together; almost human in its passions, almost spiritual in its tenderness, almost divine in its infinity, it is surely meant for the chief teacher of what is immortal in us, as it is the chief minister of chastisement or of blessing to what is mortal. And yet we never attend to it, we never make it a subject of thought.....

i do

i "talk" or pray looking to the clouds...i don't know why,

but it has always made me feel more like i'm being heard.

i "look" at clouds a lot.....and sometimes i think i see an "answer"

in the New English Bible , i looked up CLOUDS

it read

"a symbol of God's presence"

i love blue sky...

but i have always loved a cloudy day

it's comforting to me.....

morning rituals

finally......i can open the door and step outside and feel the
end of summer's harshness and the beginning of fall's promise.

I start my day here......

and yesterday......was rewarded with a gentle rain.

refreshing.
